In 2008 we were both working in jobs that we loved, and living by the beach in Sydney. God challenged us to surrender our whole lives to Him and follow Him wherever He wanted us to go. We are convicted to make a home in Italy long term, to love and serve the people that we meet.
We will be joining a team of two other families in Trieste. Their vision for missional church planting in the city and beyond really resonates with us. We will spend our first couple of years learning Italian, supporting the current team and their ministries, and being mentored by a mature Italian church in Bologna.
– Jeremiah 29:4-7 –
“Thus says The Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, to all the exiles whom I have sent into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon: Build houses and live in them; plant gardens and eat their produce. Take wives and have sons and daughters; take wives for your sons, and give your daughters in marriage, that they may bear sons and daughters; multiply there and do not decrease. But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to The Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find welfare.”
– Matthew 28:19 –
‘Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit’
– 1 Thessalonians 2:8 –
‘We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well, because you had become so dear to us’
– Romans 10:13-15 –
‘For, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”’
“The gospel is only good news if it gets there in time” – Carl F. H. Henry
“This generation of believers that you and me are a part of, we are responsible for this generation of souls, all over the world. We’re responsible for them. We’re responsible to pray daily for the needs of ministries around the world, ask God “how about me not sending my money this time, how about me going?”. It’s so easy to write a cheque, it’s so easy. But God can’t cash out of state cheque’s in heaven. He need’s you!” – Keith Green, live in concert 1982
