Peppa Pig to the rescue!
I don’t know if other parents can relate to what I mean when I say I LOVE Peppa Pig?? Sydney loves her, and I love the distraction she provides when I need 10 minutes to get a job done. Yes? Anyone? A couple of months ago we decided to splurge and buy Sydney a whole Peppa Pig dvd (don’t judge me till you’ve tried to pack up and get rid of all your possessions with a 2 year old running riot!). We randomly bought the one called ‘The Holiday’, which includes 3 episodes where Peppa and her family go to Italy. BONUS! Seriously, Peppa was responsible for most of Sydney’s cultural transition training!
So, we arrived in Trieste to an awesome welcome by our teammates. They had thought of everything – they provided us a unit to stay in on our own till we find our own place, a delicious home cooked meal, toys for the kids to borrow etc etc. But really there isn’t much else you can do or say to make a family that’s just flown across the world feel at home.. enter Peppa! Andrea and McKenzie’s son Adrien asked to put the TV on, and there she was – greeting us in her perfect Italiano! Sydney and Adrien were instant friends as they bonded over their mutual love for this Pig, and somehow everything seemed ok.
